Three Outstanding Graduate Students Received
Offshore Mechanics Scholarships
Osaka, Japan, August 28, 2009 ¾ The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE) announced the 3 recipients of the 2009-2010 ISOPE Offshore Mechanics Scholarships for outstanding graduate students as follows:
Mr. Johannes Spinneken, Imperial College London, London, United Kingdom
Mr. Kyong-Hwan Kim, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea
Mr. Ashkan Rafiee, School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Western Australia, Crawley, Australia

The Award Committee received applications with outstanding records for 2009-2010. On behalf of Prof. Richard Miksad, Award Committee chair (2007-2009), University of Virginia, Dr. Mohamed Sayed, National Research Council Canada presented the certificates with $700 prize to each of the recipients at the annual banquet, Osaka International Convention Center, June 24. All recipients presented their papers at the annual ISOPE-2009 Osaka conference which were accepted after peer review. 105 graduate students participated in the conference.
The annual ISOPE Student Forum held on June 23 is referred to a separate report or announcement.
The scholarship application deadline for 2009-2010 academic year is April 6, 2010. Graduate students and entering new graduate students from all continents who study and/or conduct research in any fields in or related to offshore mechanics, ocean and arctic engineering and related fields can apply.
