2009 ISOPE Best Student Paper Award Presented to
an Outstanding Student at Kyushu University, Japan
Osaka, Japan, August 28, 2009 ¾ The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE) announced the recipient of its Best Student Paper Award at the ISOPE-2009 Osaka Banquet:
Nonlinear Solution for Vibration of Vertical Elastic Plate by Initial Elevation of Free Surface
by Mr. Guanghua He, Kyushu University, Kasuga, Fukuoka, Japan. The paper was presented at the Nineteenth (2009) International Offshore and Polar Engineering Conference, Osaka, Japan, June 21-26, 2009.

On behalf of Prof. Richard Miksad, Award Committee chair (2007-2009), University of Virginia, Dr. Mohamed Sayed, National Research Council Canada presented the Award plaque and $1,000 Modi Prize to Mr. Guanghua He.. Prof. Miksad explained that the Committee, after evaluating 81 nominations, 4 papers were short-listed by Technical Program Committee. The Award Committee then asked a panel of experts in each field for an expert evaluation. Screening through the qualification requirements ¾ originality and significance of the results ¾ and based on the 7 expert evaluations, the Committee recommended that Mr. He’s paper as 2009 Best Student Paper.
