Prof. Torgeir Moan of Trondheim
Is First Recipient
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA, USA, March 30, 2006 –– The ISOPE President, Prof. Ronald H Knapp, announces that Prof. Torgeir Moan, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway, is the first recipient of the ISOPE’s Jin S Chung Award and Lecture. The award ceremony and lecture will take place at the 16th International Offshore and Polar Engineering Conference & Exhibition, ISOPE-2006, to be held at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Hotel, May 28-June 2, 2006.
The lecture ― Fatigue Reliability of Marine Structures, from the Alexander Kielland Accident to Life Cycle Assessment of Safety ― is scheduled for Tuesday, May 30, at 13:30 in Farallon Lecture Hall. The lecture presentation will later appear in the International Journal of Offshore and Polar Engineering.
The nomination committee, composed of past presidents and board of directors, selected the first recipient of the Jin S Chung Award. This award is to be given each year, starting in 2006, to recognize outstanding creative and innovative contributions to the offshore, ocean and polar engineering fields. The Jin S Chung Award Committee this year includes Prof. Ivar Langen (Europe), Prof. Yukio Ueda (Asia/Oceania) and Prof. Ronald H Knapp (Americas).
The committee received over 10 outstanding nominations, evaluated documents of all nominees’ professional achievements prepared by the nominators, and short-listed four nominees. The committee then re-evaluated in-depth, according to the evaluation guideline, and was pleased to recommend to the board of directors that Professor Torgeir Moan of NTNU be the first recipient of this award, to be given at the ISOPE-2006 Conference in San Francisco.
