14 Awards Presented at Annual ISOPE-2006 Award Banquet
Cupertino, California, June 2― At its 16th Annual Conference Banquet, held on 31 May 2006 in San Francisco, ISOPE (International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers) presented 14 awards, three of them for the first time. And all recipients attended the Banquet!
JIN S. CHUNG AWARD & LECTURE
Ronald Knapp, ISOPE president, presented the 2006 JIN S. CHUNG AWARD & LECTURE, never before awarded, to the first recipient:
· Professor Torgeir Moan, Department of Marine Structures, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.
In recognition of outstanding creative and innovative contributions to
the offshore, ocean and polar engineering fields.
The lecture was delivered on May 30. It will be published in the forthcoming issue of International Journal of Offshore and Polar Engineering.

C H KIM AWARD
Jin Chung, CH Kim Award Committee Chair, presented the 2006 C H KIM AWARD, awarded for the first time, to the first recipient:
· Professor Masashi Kashiwagi, Research Institute for Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University, Kasuga, Fukuoka, Japan. In addition to the plaque, Professor Kashiwagi received a $1,000 prize.
In recognition of his outstanding technical achievements in
and exceptional contribution to floating-body hydrodynamics.

BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD
Jin S. Chung, Best Student Paper Committee Chair, presented the BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD to the first recipient:
· Mr. Yonguk Ryu, Department. of Civil Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA.
In recognition of outstanding originality and significance in the paper entitled,
A Laboratory Study on Green Water Velocity Measurement and Prediction,
presented at the 16th (2006) ISOPE Conference, San Francisco, May 28-June 2, 2006.
This award had not been presented before. Along with the plaque, Mr. Ryu received the $1,000 Professor Modi Prize.

Bob Frederking, on behalf of Ivar Langen, Award Committee Chair, presented the BEST PAPER AWARDS to:
· Lead Author: Dr. Francis Noblesse, David Taylor Model Basin, NSWC-CD, West Bethesda, Maryland, USA. In addition to the plaque, Dr. Noblesse received the $1,000 Osaka Prize, presented by Prof. Shigeru Naito, president of the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers.

Jin Chung and Han-Il Park (the 2005 award winner) presented the SESSION ORGANIZER OF THE YEAR (2006) AWARDS to:
· Dr. Seok Won Hong, Director General, Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute (MOERI), Korea.
· Dr. HyunWoo Jin, ExxonMobil Research & Engineering Company, Annandale, New Jersey, USA. In addition to the plaque, Dr. Jin received the $1,000 Seoul Prize, presented by Han-Il Park on behalf of Dr. Seok Won Hong, president of the Korea Society of Ocean Engineers.
