Cupertino, California, June 22, 2005 ¾ In May-June 2005, the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE) held the email election for new members of the board of directors, in accordance with the Society Bylaws. Prof. Jin Chung, the Societyfs first president on behalf of past president Birger Natvig announced the election results at the ISOPE-2005 banquet, COEX Intercontinental Hotel, Seoul, Korea, June 22, 2005.
1. The new members of Board of Directors, serving for the 2005-07 term, effective July 1, 2005 are:
Cuneyt C. Capanoglu, President, International Design, Engineering and Analysis (I.D.E.A.S.), Inc, USA
Shigeru Naito. Professor of naval architecture and ocean engineering, Osaka University. Japan
Francesco Lalli. Senior Researcher, APAT (Italian Agency for Environmental Protection), Italy
The qualification of the nominated candidates satisfies the Bylaw's requirements for their past and current contribution to the Society, the geographical spread as well as session organizer (TPC) representation.
Cuneyt C. Capanoglu. Principal Engineer and the founder and president of International Design, Engineering and Analysis (I.D.E.A.S.), Inc, San Francisco, USA, PE in California; M.S.(1966) in Structural Engineering and B.S.(1964) in Civil Engineering, University of California at Berkeley. 39 years of the industry experiences; nearshore and offshore structures. Charter member of ISOPE, TPC member and secretary of International Offshore Technology Committee; local committee chair of ISOPE-2006 San Francisco; Published 2 books on offshore structures and 16 papers, the principal contributor to 2nd and 3rd Editions of API Bulletin 2U, ISOPE Award for co-hosting ISOPE-92 San Francisco, API Production Dept "Citation for Service" award, Turkish Petroleum Corp award.
Shigeru Naito. Professor (1986-) and associate researcher (1975-84) of naval architecture and ocean engineering, Osaka University. PhD (1974) and BS (1969) in naval architecture, Osaka University, Osaka, Japan; President (2004- ) of Kansai Society of Naval Architects; President of Japan Society of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineers (the new combined society of all Japanfs naval architect societies). Charter member of ISOPE, TPC member and chair of International Hydrodynamics Committee, PACOMS executive committee, ISOPE Award for co-hosting ISOPE-94 Osaka and various awards. Chair of many symposia; Numerous publications.
Francesco Lalli - (2000- ) Senior Researcher - environmental modeling, APAT (Italian Agency for Environmental Protection), Rome, Italy; (1995- ); Senior Researcher – ocean engineering, INSEAN; (!992-93) Ministry of Environment; (1986-): Researcher, Italian Ship Model Basin (INSEAN); (1984-86) Department of Mechanics and Aeronautics, and Department of Electric Energy, University of Rome gLa Sapienzah; (1984) Degree in Hydraulic Engineering at University of Rome gLa Sapienzah; A member of ISOPE, TPC member and vice chair (2002) of International Hydrodynamics Committee; His specialties vary; Magnetohydrodynamics features in superconducting pump, PIV, LDV, CFD and environment modeling, with 20 publications.
