Cupertino, California, May 26, 2004 ¾ In April-May 2004, the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE) held the email election for new members of the board of directors, in accordance with the Society Bylaws. The Society past president Langen announced the election results at the ISOPE-2004 banquet, Toulon, France, May 26, 2004.
1. The new members of Board of Directors, serving for the 2004-06 term, effective July 1, 2004 are:
Jay Koo, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, USA--(after Mohamed Sayed, Canada)
Hermann Moshagen, Consultant for Statoil, Norway-- (after Nol Gresnigt, The Netherlands)
Soo Sam Kim, Professor of civil engineering, Hanyang University, Korea-- (after Hang S. Choi, Korea)
The qualification of the nominated candidates satisfies the Bylaw's requirements for their past and current contribution to the Society, the geographical spread as well as session organizer (TPC) representation.
Jay Koo (56) Head of Materials, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, USA (1981-88; 1994-present); PhD (1977) from University of California at Berkeley; Charter member of ISOPE, TPC member and International Mechanics and Structures Committee, Co-initiated/co-organizer of ISOPE High Performance Materials in Offshore Industry Symposium at ISOPE 2003 Honolulu and the 1st Pacific/Asia Offshore Mechanics Symposium (1990); Managing Director of POSCO, Korea (1988- 1994), Professor, Rutgers University (1979–1981); Established now an industry standard in offshore industry of procedure for evaluating of weld integrity.
