Society Members Elect Three New Board Members

 

Cupertino, California, May 25, 2003 In May 2003, the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE) held the email election for new members of the board of directors, in accordance with the Society Bylaws.

1.  The Society president Langen announced the election results at the ISOPE-2003 banquet. The new members of Board of Directors, serving for the 2003-2005 term are:

 

Edward Powers, University of Texas at Austin, Texas, USA (After Ronald H. Knapp)

Tetsuya Hiraishi, Port and Airport Research Institute, Yokosuka, Japan (After Wataru Koterayama)

Michel Olagnon, IFREMER, Plouzane, France (after Alberto Francescutto)

 

The qualification of the nominated candidates satisfies the Bylaw's requirements for their past and current contribution to the Society, the geographical spread as well as session organizer (TPC) representation.

 

Tetsuya Hiraishi  Head, Wave Division, Port and Airport Research Institute, Independent Administrative Institution, Japan (2000- ), Dr. Eng degree from Kyoto University (1994). ISOPE (1991-), TPC member (1998-).

Major research fields: Transformation of directional random waves, Design of offshore structure, Disaster prevention in coastal zone

 

Michel Olagnon  Senior Research Engineer, Metocean group, Ifremer, France (1977- ); Ocean Engineering degree from Ecole Nationale Superieure de Techniques Avancees Paris (1977); ISOPE Member (1993- ), TPC member (1993-); Chair of International Offshore Technology Committee (1997-2001), Board member (1997-99), Co-Chair, 9th Annual ISOPE Conference, Brest (1999).

 

Edward J. Powers  Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin (1965- ); Department Chair (1981-1989); Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. (1959-1965); PhD from Stanford University (1965), Editor, IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science (1976-1983); Charter member of ISOPE, TPC member and International Hydrodynamics Committee, and Fellow (1983) of the IEEE.

 

2.  The President of the Society was elected in 2002 for the term 2002-04;

 

Ivar Langen, Norway (2002-2003):  Term ends on June 30, 2003.

Birger J. Natvig, Norway (2003-2004):  Term begins on July 1, 2003.
