1. Purpose of the Award
The award is for ISOPE to recognize a person who can be a role model by distinguished achievements in promoting international technological progress in specific field(s) of offshore mechanics and polar engineering, and recognize outstanding researchers who made significant contribution to the field through active participation in the ISOPE-sponsored meetings.
2. Qualification and Proposal of the Designated Award Name
2.1 The person whose name is designated for the award shall have internationally made outstanding technical achievements in specific field(s) within the Society's technical fields, and shall be or shall have been a current or past member of the Society who has retired or is expecting to retire within 3 years after the date of the proposal of award establishment.
2.2 The candidate for nomination who is proposed to be designated for the award name may be submitted by at least 10 regular Society members from at least 3 countries to the headquarters 10 months prior to the annual ISOPE conference. The nomination shall accompany the document of the candidatefs resume including the personfs achievements.
2.3 The group of sponsors or the sponsor for the designated award name shall deposit a fund of $15,000 in the Societyfs bank account for cash award upon approval of the designated award name by the Society's board of directors, but 10 months prior to presentation of the first award.
3. Qualification of the Award Nominee
3.1 The nominee shall have made and is expected to continue to make internationally, outstanding technical achievements in and exceptional contribution to the specific field of the award-designated person's technical field.
3.2 The nominee shall be in the same field as or very close to that of the person designated with the award name.
3.3 The person shall have actively participated in at least one of the ISOPE-sponsored meetings.
3.4 The nominee shall further possess high professional ethics standard.
4. Selection Procedure
4.1 The candidates for nomination shall be submitted by at least 5 regular Society members from at least 3 countries to the headquarters by September 1 of the previous year.
4.2 The nomination document shall include the candidatefs resume, the summary of achievements in chronological order, and 3 nomination letters from the Societyfs regular members.
4.2 The Society shall announce to its members requests for nomination.
4.3 The nomination shall be reviewed by a jury consisting of all members and at least 2 past members of board of directors, and award committee, and the chair person of the relevant technical committee. The jury shall be chaired by the Societyfs executive director.
4.4 The jury shall decide if there is a candidate that year, and, if there is, submit the candidate to the board of directors 2 months prior to the annual ISOPE conference for the final approval. The award is not required to be given on annual basis.
4.5 The award shall be in a form of plaque with cash prize and shall be presented at the ISOPE Conference luncheon or dinner.
